Below are answers to some of SNZ's most commonly asked questions.


Speedcubing is the practice of competitively solving puzzles such as the Rubik's Cube as fast as possible.

Speedcubing New Zealand (SNZ) is New Zealand's WCA-accredited Regional Organization. We fund and promote competitions held in New Zealand.

The World Cube Association (WCA) is speedcubing's international governing body. The WCA manages the WCA Regulations and uploads the results from competitions, among other duties.

To compete you only need to know how to solve the cube! Some competitions have time limits, but they are normally fairly easy to meet.

Speedcubing competitions are sanctioned by the World Cube Association (WCA) and organised by members of the local community.

Before attending a competition, you of course need to be able to solve the cube! You should also be familiar with the WCA Regulations.

Speedcubing Australia has published a helpful written competitor tutorial which is applicable to New Zealand competitions. You are also welcome to attend a competition as a spectator, which will let you observe and learn how competitions work.

No. All competitors compete on the same level and all ages and abilities are welcome. Competitions are incredibly supportive environments and there is always a wide range of ages and abilities.

SNZ does not organise competitions. Competitions are organised by members of the local speedcubing community and funded by SNZ. To find out more about organising a competition, please reach out to us.
